Originally published in 1886, Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow had never been translated into Brazilian Portuguese. The challenge was to introduce this lesser-known classic to contemporary readers while preserving its Victorian atmosphere and distinctive balance of sharp humor and melancholy.
( Solution )
I designed the complete editorial experience around fragments of Victorian ornamental wallpaper, using them as a recurring illustration system throughout the book. The contrast between the expressive, thorn-like Moret and the restrained Neue Haas Unica reflects the tension between Jerome’s eccentric humor and more contemplative observations.

Published by Carambaia as a limited hardcover edition of 1,000 hand-numbered copies, the project transformed the book’s first Brazilian translation into a collectible object with a distinct visual interpretation of the original text. Carambaia
